Cainiao has introduced standardized parcel photos and optional value-added services for consolidated shipments to the United States, Canada, and Australia. After a parcel reaches the warehouse, you can review the free standard photos first. If those images do not answer questions about quantity, additional angles, power-on status, or the full contents of a shipment, you can consider an add-on service.
The practical benefit is an extra review point before consolidation and international shipping payment. Photos may help you spot an obvious issue earlier, especially with multiple identical items, products that are commonly mispacked, small appliances, collectibles, or goods whose exterior condition matters.

What the Free Standard Photos Include
According to Cainiao's service page, each parcel receives two or three warehouse-intake photos, available under Orders in the Cainiao app.
The normal set contains two images:
- one photo of the outer package;
- one front-facing photo or group view of the products.
When transparent packaging contains several items and the front photo cannot clearly show the quantity and full contents, the warehouse may turn the package over and add a third image. Cainiao says it does not turn over products that lack protective packaging when doing so could leave fingerprints or marks.
Photos are taken within an approximately 70 × 50 cm work area. Products that fit are displayed together. If identical items cannot all fit, one item may be placed beside an open carton. Different SKUs may be stacked or photographed together with the shipping carton when they cannot be laid out at once.
Standard photos are therefore useful for a first visual review, but they are not a detailed inspection of every unit and do not guarantee that every product detail will be visible.
What the Four Add-On Services Are For
The service page lists four options when the free photos are not enough:
- Photos + quantity count: useful for multiple identical items, sets, or suspected shortages.
- Multi-angle photos: useful for checking the back, sides, ports, corners, or packaging condition.
- Photos + electronics power-on check: useful when you want to see whether a device powers on, lights up, or reaches a lock screen.
- Photos + full display verification: useful for displaying several products together and reviewing the shipment as a whole.

The main campaign page labels value-added services at ¥10 per parcel. The separate electronics power-on disclaimer says that service normally costs ¥10 per check, but is being offered free during the trial period as a dedicated VIP service experience; the start of regular charging will be announced in the app.
Because those two pages do not use exactly the same pricing language, rely on the amount shown in your own order before submission. Contact the dedicated customer service representative or benefits advisor shown on the app home page if the price or eligibility is unclear.
A Power-On Check Is Not a Functional Test
The electronics power-on option is easy to overinterpret. Cainiao's disclaimer limits it to a basic check such as:
- whether the device powers on or the screen lights up;
- whether a startup or lock screen appears;
- a photo record of the device's status at that moment.
It does not include functional testing, performance evaluation, or quality certification. A successful startup does not prove that every feature works. The warehouse follows a standard procedure, but the disclaimer excludes compensation when a failure or damage results from an inherent product issue such as an aged battery, internal short circuit, or liquid damage.
The check does not involve reading, storing, or transmitting data from the device. If a password is required, the warehouse only photographs the lock screen. Back up important data before shipping and do not treat this service as data migration, account verification, or a complete device inspection.
The result is sent through an app message with photos of the product exterior and its power-on status. If the device does not power on, the warehouse photographs the failed state and customer service follows up.
Devices with lithium batteries remain subject to packaging, storage, and transport-safety rules. Completing a power-on check does not prove that the product is eligible for every international route.
Which Service Fits Your Question?
| Your question | Better match |
|---|---|
| I ordered 10 identical items and want to confirm the count | Photos + quantity count |
| I need to see the back, ports, sides, or corners | Multi-angle photos |
| I want to confirm that an electronic device at least powers on | Photos + electronics power-on check |
| One carton contains several products and I want a complete view | Photos + full display verification |
| I only need the package exterior and a front product view | Start with the free standard photos |
An add-on may not be economical for a low-cost item. For an expensive product, a short return window, or an item that would be difficult to resolve after overseas delivery, paying for one additional review may be worthwhile.
Where to View and Request the Services
- Update the Cainiao app to the latest version.
- After warehouse intake, open Orders and review the parcel photos.
- If the standard photos are insufficient, check the add-ons available for that order.
- Before submitting, confirm the service scope, displayed price, parcel eligibility, and current route restrictions.
- If the option is missing or anything remains unclear, contact the dedicated customer service representative or benefits advisor on the app home page.

Review Again Before International Shipping Payment
Photos and add-ons help with warehouse-intake review. They do not replace prohibited-item checks, route-eligibility review, or shipping insurance. Before consolidation, confirm the product count, packaging, billable weight, route restrictions, and estimated delivery window.
